Zen and Now
Reflecting on starting with WordPress
It was really difficult to choose a domain name that is not already taken up on WordPress. I love to sit quietly to observe and think, reflect or even philosophize, hence I chose “Random Reflections” for the name of my blog.
Domain’s name a pain
But choosing the domain name was a pain, as whatever combinations and permutations of Random Reflections were all taken up. I didn’t want to just randomly add a number after the name just to get it through because then my domain name would look ugly. Since I have been influenced by the thinkings of Zen, Buddhism and Taoism, I wanted a domain name that was mysterious, creative and reflecting my (erm) deep philosophical self. I thought of a nice name “Zen and Now” to rhyme with “Then and Now”. But darn! it was taken too by another WordPress blogger. I finally decided on “Zan and Tao” which also rhymes with “Zen and Now” , and that was finally accepted by WordPress. Yeh! Gah, it was such a painful process just to get a domain name I like. I don’t really fancy “Zen and Tao” becos it doesn’t roll off the tongue as smoothly as “Zen and Now”, hence I titled my first post “Zen and Now” to get some satisfaction
Choosing a theme
But once you’re in, it was easy to use WordPress. Coming to the design, I chose “Cutline” becos it looks nice and clean. Very zen ;-p but I wanted to change the header image so I had to choose a picture I took myself so as not to get sued by using a copyrighted pix. So I chose this pix I took myself while on holiday. It was difficult to snap at the butterflies flitting around the flowers as they were in constant motion. I decided to stay put and point my camera at one of the flowers and waited for a butterfly to fly into my viewfinder. True enough, one did and *snap* I had my picture
I chose this pix as I wanted one that reflects my love for nature which puts me in the right mood for Random Reflections of the Zen and Tao of Life. And cropping the pix to fit the size of the header was so easy by using my mouse to shift the “croppable” area up and down until I was happy with the location on the original pix to crop out of
